I finally pulled the trigger on one. BCA 16.5 in upper.

Put a Minox ZX5 1-5 30mm scope on it in a Leupold mount since the low profile rings I ordered didnt' allow the eyepiece to clear the receiver. Sleepy

I ordered 2 AR stoner 5 round mags for it. They are not fun to load.

Can't wait to shoot it. Going to a place today to get the sling mount for the rail situated. Then I am gonna hunker down in some thick stuff and wait for a deer to walk by and hammer it.

Its alabama, not MI, lol!

I have actually hit upon an idea. I got to thinking that with the somewhat difficult proposition of getting a magazine to function really well with this ammo, and I do like the gun, but what if there was such an animal as a

350 Bushmaster?

Think about it. Hornady already has the 35 cal flex tip bullet. Drop case diameter down and you could carry more, and it would still be a thumper!!!

Bet I could get more than 7 cartridges in a magazine.

Speaking of which, one of my AR stoner mags had to go back to Midway, it would not stay in battery. The other seems to work fine.

I am finding I do enjoy the gun though. It carries nice, and its easy to aim and hold onto. Makes more racket going through the woods with the M lok rail on it.

There is a .375 socom. Google it, it looks pretty sweet.
Lifetime warranty and excellent customer service don't mean a thing when your gun fails during a zombie attack.

Lockjaw,
A much better alternative to the cartridge you’re envisioning would be to go with .338” cal rather than .358”. For whatever reason, .35 caliber just doesn’t get much love from the cartridge development world and ammo component manufacturers, and therefore doesn’t have anywhere close to the bullet selection that is available in .338”. Even if we just look at your 200 gr .35 Flex Tip...Hornady also offers a .338” Flex Tip, also 200 gr weight, but it has way better BC than the .35. So, comparing same case capacity, the .338” bullet will shoot a little flatter, arrive on target at higher velocity, and penetrate deeper than the same weight .35. There would be no discernible difference in .338” vs .358” bullet performance on game at close range, and at long distance, .338” very handily spanks the .35s due to more efficient aerodynamics. No viable AR15 cartridge of either bore diameter would make a very good LR cartridge due to limited case capacity and mag box length limitations, however. In short, .338 does everything .358 bore cartridges will do and more, all while shooting flatter and offering much better bullet selection.

If your preference is to step down in case/rim diameter from the Bushmaster case, your only viable options would be either the .44” rim dia PPC/.220 Russian/Grendel parent case or the .42” rim .30 Rem/6.8 SPC parent case.

That would be ok with me. I was just thinking outloud a little.

I was thinking something with more oomph that a 300 blk, but that could be pushed a little harder than the bushmaster and up the mag capacity a little.

I am still working out the whole carry of this gun. I have a magpul MS1 sling, and they tac shop added a QD mount to the front rail, and also one to the back of the CTR buttstock. It makes it nice to carry around, as in I don't have to hold it while walking, but the buckles tend to make noise when they hit the rail especially.

I might do better to do a single point to the QD on the buttstock. The rail makes racket when it hits brush too...... Wood is quieter... I guess there is no free lunch.

I like the 375 Socom, but ammo availability is an issue. That is why I went with the Bushmaster. My local gun shop across the hwy from where I work told me they keep 450 in stock, mainly the hornady, but also have the Winchester as well. Don't get why the latter doesn't perform like thge H ammo. Pointed bullet, same advertised velocity.

I figure with some of these shotgun only states going to allowing straight wall rifle cartridges, the Bushmaster would grow in popularity. Savage is now making a small bolt gun like Ruger has.
