Trying to find out anything that I can about the history of the BUSHNELL STABLE VIEW Mod.18-1035. I      just dug a pair out of the closet that I never used.

Hi, John:

If you were to investigate the origins of 500 popular handheld binoculars, you would see almost all came from only a handful of companies that actually made them. They will differ in cosmetics, aperture, magnification, advertising verbiage, and, of course, price but little in weight, features, or performance.

The following is from BINOCULARS: Fallacy & Fact

Nippon Kogaku Who?

“... In 1917, three Japanese optical companies pooled their resources and formed Nippon Kogaku, the optical powerhouse known today as Nikon. By 1920, Nikon had nine Zeiss techs and engineers in tow and were preparing to make a big splash in the world of optics.

“They, too, have entered the image stabilized binocular market with their “Stabil-Eyes” 14x40. Placing the Stabil-Eyes and Techno-Stabi side by side, one would be hard-pressed to come up with significant differences in size, weight, aperture, magnification, features, performance, or cost. Given all that, and the fact even the buttons and hand straps are in the same locations, you may draw your own conclusions ...”

With image stabilized binoculars the sources are even fewer. Good luck on your quest. But, you might find more pleasure in using it than investigating its origin.
