Why all the complaints about cleaning the .172 bore? I have 5 17s. 2 ea 17 Rem., 1ea 17 K-Hornet and 2ea 17 rim fires.. They are cleaned about every 30 rounds like any other caliber. no more, no less and accuracy is maintained. The 17 needs no more cleaning than any other caliber. The thought that they need more cleaning is a myth. Same goes for it's wind bucking ability.

I have lost woodchucks (one the coyotes did not get) with a misplaced shot from a 30/06.

I have a new .17 Rem and was shooting today in a 25Mph cross wind and the little 20s did suffer a bit, but anything below my 243 AI does anyway.

As for cleaning, up to 30 shots. 10 strokes with a nylon brush. 5 wet patches of eliminator or TM and then 1 hr with wipeout....Works fine for me. I use a borescope and it is as clean as my 223 with no more work.

The .17 is a very underated calibre.

I have been using a Bore Snake in my various rifles for 5 years now. I think they work fine and are simple to use, just run them through the bore 2 times, once dry and the 2nd time with some hoppes on the end of the snake.  It actually leaves a good coat on the rifling and in my opinion gets the job done just fine.  PS it only takes about 2 minutes to clean the barrel of any rifle.

I am glad to see all those in agreement. I expect a package tomorrow. A new Nikon 6x18x40SF. My model 700 HBSS .172 Remington sits in the gun vise awaiting it's arrival. Its the first SF scope I will own. Hope I like it.

On cleaning. It might interest you to know that Hoppe's item#1202s patches .22 to.270 caliber work great for 17 bore using a Dewey 17 rod & jag. Shooters choice copper solvent is all I use all calibers 17-30 all molly coated bullets.
Yes I hand load for 37 cartridges. My range is 150 yards bench rest located in a heated shooting house. Go to my live-journal, put MTAPD1296 in the search box, once inside search the pages, plenty of range pictures
