Just acquired a rifle with this scope on it. The zeroing control do nothing, the windage if jammed solid and the vertical control turns but the reticle does not move. The controls are centered on the top turret so what is the one on the side for? It has "scharf Einstllung" printed on it.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Hertel & Reuss made a lot of innovative rifle scopes, here´s an old thread on the subject:

Scharf Einstellung = focusing

I have only owned one scope from H&R and that was a "normal" scope without the design gimmicks.

H&R later became Nickel after financial problems, Nickel are still making scopes, they might have answers to your questions. If my memory is correct there was a guy somewhere in the US that repaired old Weatherby Imperial scopes (made by H&R) he might also have answers.

Any luck with the scope repairs?

I've got a couple Weatherby Imperial scopes and the windage and elevation have seized together on one, so when one 'turret' is turned, the other goes, too. A dumb design, really.

I have a bunch of Nickel Marburg scopes, too, some of which were bound to have been made by H&R - but have had minimal  problems with them.

The new Nickel AG don't have a great PR section, as I recall. Damned if I know how they sell scopes by mail order.
