I haven't purchased a scope for some time and I've been considering buying a two scopes for two hunting rifles.  Both rifles are Remingtion 700 Classics in 6.5 x 55 and 8mm Mauser.

Some of the scopes that I've been researching are Leupold VX3, Zeiss Conquest and Bushnell Elite 6500.  I was looking for a scope with "side focus" in the 3.5 x 10 or 4 x 12 power range, etc.

Does anyone have any experience with these brands of scopes regarding brightness, reliability, repeatability, etc?

I have owned all three of the brands of scope. All three have models with side focus in the 3-12 or 4-12 power range. I would rate them: Conquest, Bushnell 6500 and Leupold VX3.

I have a 6500 2.5-16x42 and a conquest 4.5-14x44. My dad has a vx3. The conquest and 6500 are about the same. The conquest I like a tad better and the etched reticle is nice. The 6500 has rain guard and a lot of eye relief, which is nice on a heavy kicker. The 6500 is a tad brighter but has some whiteout effect on the higher powers. My dad's vx3 is nice but the plex is very thin imo !

I would be looking at the Zeiss Conquest. Also for me I do not like a side focus or AO on my hunting scopes. To me it is just something else to have to deal with that might make the difference between being able to make the shot and missing a shot.

I own the Conquest (4.5-14x50) & (6.5-20x50) and the Leupold (8.5-25x50) & (6.5-20x40).  I've played with the Bushnell 6500 to some degree (2.5-16x50) and if I had to rate for glass it would be;

1.  Conquest.
2.  VX3 [NOT VARI-X-III or VX-III].
3.  6500.

On low power they are all a wash but on high power, the 6500 got just a tad (very slight) hazy.

For options the VX3 by far but I don't care for Leupold's eye focus.  However, the 6500 has far more flexibility with zoom range than the other two.  For warranty, Leupold is tough to beat.  Can't say one way or the other with Zeiss or Bushnell.

In the end, you'll probably be happy with either choice.

I would not buy the Bushnell 6500. For a few more bucks, you can have the Swarovski Z3 or Z5. Optically they are a large step above the Bushnell's.

I agree with Oldtrader.  German Glass all the way!  Zeiss, Swarovski, Schmidt and Bender, Steiner, Leica, Kahles, Hensoldt.  Those are some heavy hitters.  You cant go wrong with any of those!  I would choose the zeiss conquest.
