Yeah it is early!

Took my son to the range Sunday.  Checked the sight in on his 308 and tested some heavy loads I had worked up for his bear hunt next week.  Found that 41.5grs of Varget behind a Speers Core bon 200gr soft point grouped really well at 100yds doing right at 2400fps.  He was happy and I felt better about him having something with a little more punch than the 150gr deer loads he was planning on using!!!  He wasn't interested in using my 300WM.  Got to admit that $255 Stevens 200 in 308 shoots pretty well.

Played with the the AR some more (Grahams upper) and found that either the POI verified by about 18" between a 55gr and 50gr Amax or I had somehow knocked the scope out last trip.

Anyway since a had a large clean backing I was able to see how far off I was.  I then pulled the upper off the lower and set it on a tripod and sighted on my neighbors silhouette target thru the bore then carefully without moving the upper looked thru the scope and sure enough it was off big time!!!  I rezeroed the scope and put the AR back together and presto-changeo...back on paper.
Two tweaks later bullseye.  Shot a few more then loaded up a clip and put the gun on my sons bench showing him how to close the bolt and saying.. "Here see what yo can do with this piece of junk"  and went back to my bench.

He has never shot an AR.  I went back to my varmint bolt gun but was watching him out of teh corner of my eye.  He used an adjustable tripod and squeezed a few off at a orange target.  His expression said it all!!!  He squinted at the target then looked at the AR,  at the target, at teh AR again.  Every thime he looked at the AR his eyes got bigger.  He shook his head NO then took three more shots.  That made 2 0.5MOA groups.  He stared at the AR some more then proceeds to empty the remaining 9 shots at a measured pace and grouped all of them at about 1"

When he was done he just looked at the AR and shook his head in disbelief!  I was laughing at him
when he looked over and said..."it shoots better than you would expect doesn't it?"  Now he wants one!!!... go figure! Whacko

Actually Aiden's Birthday was Thursday the 11th.

Happy to report that your upper does like 50gr A-Max after all!  Must have bumped
the scope out the last time at the range.  So it likes 55  and 50gr pills.

Cough, cough, hack hack!!!  I just cooked a battery until it vented in the lab cause I was typing and forgot to keep an eye on it!  It was a locked on charger and it just kept pumping 3 amps well after the battery was full.  Tells will actually boil off the paste electrolyte sending smoke ad funky fumes everywhere.  It it hot enough and it'll catch fire.  Heard this one when it started popping and smoking then threw it in a trach can and ran it outside to finish venting!!!

Now the lab stinks and I have allthe doors proped open!

The Fiocchi shoot better in the AR than my 12BTV.  I grouped about 1-1.25 last weekend.  I didn't really shoot any in my gun this weekend, I was busy load developing 68Gr Hornady HPBT Match pills.  looks like 24.2 and 24.4gr Varget produce the tightest groups with thoses!  Nice tight groups too!  I'll post some pictures tonight!

  2400 w/a 200 grainer ought to work.  That's a bit over 2550 ft/lbs of muzzle energy.

Glad to hear you and your son had a great time shooting. They AR platform is really addicting and there is an endless amount of things you can do with the rifle and 5.56 round.

Yeah, this Monday is not starting out too good!

Fumigated the lab then smoke the charger cuase I yanked teh battery with the charger locked on when the battery overheated and vented.  The charger didn't have anything to pump its current into so the output voltage climbed until the output safety TVS fired nad smoked!

Labs aired out and charger is repaired so i'm back on track ....delayed but on track!
