4,000 FPS

It's been around for a while as a wildcat (.221 Fireball necked down), know as the .17 Mach IV

What do ya'll think about it?  It is supposed to be quieter than its big brother the .17 Rem. and does not foul barrels like the .17 Rem.

Remington is making a limited edition 700 chambered in it.

A guy at my range has a .17 Mach 4.

Wicked accurate too!

I've got a H&R Topper in Hornet and that rifle is a killer.  I use it for coons primarily but one day I had the opportunity to shoot a hog with it and much to my surprise he fell right over.

In that caliber class, I'd personally just opt for the .204 Ruger.  Though it's probably louder, it's slightly faster, easier to clean, easier to find ammo for, cheaper to shoot, available in more rifles, and not as wind drift sensitive.  I like the .17 rimfires a lot, but I've never warmed up to the .17 centerfires, as much as anything because they are a pain to handload, manipulating those tiny bullets in the cases and keeping them oriented correctly for seating.

So, what do you get, then, if you already have all the above, minus the 22-06, plus .223, 6PPC, 6BR, and you WANT another varmint rifle?

Sounds to me like a bona-fide "need" for a hot .17, .20 VarTarg, .204, etc.!!!!

if i can find a 222 in a remington 788 that would be my next varmint rifle to match up with the 22-250 788 i already have, if not i have liking to the 220 swift.
