That’s interesting, I’ve never found that a problem and I shoot some really small deer out to 200m

What they said was that reticle with a cross instead of a dot, had a tendensy to cover the deer to much on high magnifications??
I haven’t seen it myself.

UPS...
Sorry Mike, didn't see this ( for some reason I got off the thread?? )
I don't know how much magnification they were talking about, only that they found it annoying that the
reticle got magnified too.

In reality with a first focal point scope, the dot or reticle would cover up the exact same amount of deer no matter what magnification you are on.  It grows in perfect relation with the magnification.  So at 3x if the dot/reticle covered up the deers head, at 10x it would also cover up the same exact amount of the deers head.

A second focal point on the other hand does not stay the same size in relation to the magnification.  So it does not appear to grow with the mag changes.  As you turn the mag up it will actually get smaller in relation to the deer growing with magnfication.

Aha… Now i got that wise, like i wrote, i have never handled / looked through a FFP scope, but i would imagine it would take a little "getting used to" if you are normally using SFP.

It surely does.  My biggest complaint of FFP is at low mage the reticle is often pretty small.  In low light hunting it is very hard to see.  Illumination can help with that, but it has to be good illumination.  Some of them suck.

For me, for hunting I like just a regular old duplex reticle in SFP.  Then I like a lower profile turret I can turn for elevation changes.

But in the end they both can do the job, it just depends upon your needs.

Jep.. Me too.
I'm pretty happy with the old Leupold and my Nikon 223 on the Savage 17 HMR. Both in SFP and " old style" duplex.
The turrets on my Leupold are higher than the ones they are doing today, but what the heck.
I have been living with it for so many years now and it is still doing the job for me.
The Vortex Viper i had on the Tikka was also SFP duplex, that was a da!! good scope for the money, i think. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a Vortex again.
